About Mike

Mike Ford Fencing is a professionally run, personal company and was established by Mike Ford in the early 1990s with business now extending nationwide.

Mike has 35 years of experience in the fencing industry and learnt his trade in the late 80s with a specialised deer fencing contractor; a trade which has taken Mike to the top of the fencing industry. Mike is regarded as one of the very elite contractors in the UK. To remain as a recognised contractor throughout the UK, Mike regularly competes in any UK fencing competition, having been Champion Contractor in seven competitions. He regularly competes in the prestigious UK Tornado Wire Fencing Competition at Malvern (the top competition in the UK) where Mike remains unbeaten, stretching back to 2006, with Mike either being Champion or judge in every year since.

Mike employs his son Jordan who has spent 8 years with him learning the trade. Mike travels the width and breadth of the UK, mainly due to his reputation he has earned as being one of the top contractors nationwide.

Mike was born and bred in an agricultural family, which has given him a full understanding of the need for quality fencing suitable for a variety of stock species.

Products

All wire fencing used is sourced from top quality British companies with the majority of wire used coming from Tornado Wire Ltd.

The life expectancy of timber products at the present time is a major concern within the fencing industry. Hence, we install a majority of our fencing using British pressure treated creosote posts, which gives a life expectancy of approx. 20 years plus. Not to be mistaken for foreign imported creosote timber sold by many UK companies and erected by many UK contractors. The major concern with foreign creosote timber is that it can start decaying after 5 years due to the fact that they contain as little as 10-20% creosote (with the remainder a by product).

Other options are HC4/UC4 posts and stakes (redwood or possibly spruce) with a life expectancy of approx. 6 to 10 years.

Tanalised posts and stakes which are used by many fencing contractors as a cheap alternative giving a life expectancy of approx. 3 to 5 years.
